Transitive and Intransitive Verbs

Às vezes o verbo em inglês é TRANSITIVO DIRETO, porém em português é TRANSITIVO INDIRETO, ou vice-versa. Por isso, devemos aprender as regras gramaticais e o equivalente sem ficar traduzindo ao pé da letra. 

TRANSITIVO INDIRETO

Sempre que for necessário o uso de preposições (de, para... / of, for, to...)

TRANSITIVO DIRETO

Quando aparecer só artigo (the, a... / o, as, um, uma...)

Exemplos:

Português - Eu ouço música (Transitivo Direto)

Inglês - I listen to the music (Transitivo Indireto)

Português - Eu ando de bicicleta (Transitivo Indireto)

Inglês - I ride a bike (Transitivo Direto)

Português - Eu gosto de sorvete (Transitivo Indireto)

Inglês - I like ice cream (Transitivo Direto)

Português - Eu preciso de dinheiro (Transitivo Indireto)

Inglês - I need money (Transitivo Direto)

Português - Eu compareci ao evento (Transitivo Indireto)

Inglês - I attended the event (Transitivo Direto)

Português - Eu entrei na sala de aula (Transitivo Indireto)

Inglês - I entered the classroom (Transitivo Direto)

Português - Eu contribui com meu trabalho (Transitivo Indireto)

Inglês - I contributed my work (Transitivo Direto)

Português - Eu contei para ele (Transitivo Indireto)

Inglês - I told him (Transitivo Direto)

Português - Eu perguntei para ele (Transitivo Indireto)

Inglês - I asked him (Transitivo Direto)

Português - Eu liguei para ele (Transitivo Indireto)

Inglês - I called him (Transitivo Direto)

Quando utilizamos VERBOS INTRANSITIVOS, NÃO precisamos completar a frase para que ela tenha sentido. 
Por exemplo:
He felt. - Ele caiu.
I work. - I work.  

Top 10 Direct Transitive Verbs:
1. Throw (the ball) - Atirar a bola
2. Repair (the truck) - Consertar o caminhão
3. Pay (the mechanic) - Pagar o mecânico
5. Watch (TV) - Assistir TV
6. Unlock (the door) - Destrancar a porta
7. Read (the book) - Ler o livro
8. Ride (a bike) - Andar de bicicleta
9. Lay (my hand) - Colocar minha mão
10. Raise (the temperature) - Elevar a temperatura
Quando utilizamos verbos TRANSITIVOS DIRETOS, precisamos completar a frase para que ela tenha sentido, geralmente respondendo a pergunta: O QUÊ? ou QUEM? Detalhe, neste caso completamos com objeto e  artigo e NÃO com preposições.

2. Throw to (atirar)
3. Delivery to (entregar para)
4. Send to (enviar para)
5. Lend to (emprestar para)
6. Write to (escrever para)
7. Smile at (sorrir para)
8. Explain to (explicar para)
9. Say to (dizer para)
10. Buy for (comprar para)
Quando utilizamos verbos TRANSITIVOS INDIRETOS, precisamos completar a frase para que ela tenha sentido, geralmente respondendo a pergunta: PARA QUEM / QUE? DO QUE? Detalhe, neste caso completamos com objeto precedido de preposições. 

ATENÇÃO: ALGUNS VERBOS PODEM EXERCER A FUNÇÃO DE TRANSITIVOS E INTRANSITIVOS. 

EXEMPLO:
I bought a car for my son. (Eu comprei um carro para o meu filho)
I bought a car - Direct Object (sem preposição - somente artigo (um) e objeto (carro).
For my son - Indirect Objetct (percebam a existência da preposição (for - para) e a necessidade de fazer a pergunta: Para quem?.

Pronomes

Em inglês:

O pronome objeto é sempre colocado após o verbo (seguido ou não de preposição, dependendo do verbo). 

Exemplo:

Don't call me anymore. - Não me ligue mais.

Who told you? - Quem te contou?

I will speak to him about you. - Falar-lhe-ei a teu respeito.

Call me as soon as you arrive. - Ligue-me assim que você chegar.

I hope to tell you the truth. - Espero contar-lhe a verdade. 

Algumas vezes a frase é reformulada, inserindo-se um sujeito ou pode até mesmo ser substituída por uma expressão equivalente.

Here it's well lived. - Aqui se vive bem. 

In the case of... - Em se tratando de... (expressão idiomática).

The girl screamed, by getting scared of a bee. - A menina gritou, assustando-se com a abelha.

Em português podemos posicionar os pronomes de três diferentes formas:
Próclise: o pronome é colocado antes do verbo (maioria dos casos)
Exemplo:
SENTIDO NEGATIVO: Não me ligue mais.
APÓS PRONOMES ADVERBIAIS* (sem pausa): Aqui se vive bem.
APÓS PRONOMES RELATIVOS**: Quem te contou?
GERÚNDIO COM "EM": Em se tratando de...
* Aqui, ali, lá....
** Que, cujo, quem...

Mesóclise: o pronome é colocado no meio do verbo (formal e cada vez mais obsoleta no seu uso coloquial)
Exemplo:
FUTURO DO PRESENTE OU FUTURO DO PRETÉRITO DO INDICATIVO: Falar-lhe-ei a teu respeito

Ênclise: o pronome é colocado depois do verbo
Exemplo:
IMPERATIVO E VERBO NO INÍCIO DE FRASE: Ligue-me assim que você chegar.
NAS ORAÇÕES REDUZIDAS** DE GERÚNDIO: A menina gritou, assustando-se com a abelha.
NAS ORAÇÕES REDUZIDAS*** DE INFINITIVO: Espero contar-lhe a verdade.
***Não são ligadas por conectivos.

 Hello everyone!!!

 Quem aqui no Brasil nunca fez uma "fézinha"? Difícil saber quem ao menos não ouviu falar nos jogos de sorte, pois aqui no Brasil é muito comum as “casas lotéricas”.

 Ta aí uma diferença cultural. No exterior as casas lotéricas não são tão comuns quanto aqui em nosso país. As apostas geralmente são feitas em supermercados, loja ou, mais popularmente, online.

Secret Santa - Amigo Secreto

Secret Santa is a tradition in which members of a group anonymously give gifts one another. It's often practiced in workplaces or amongst large families. Also, the participation in it is usually voluntary. 

Amigo Secreto é uma tradição na qual os membros de um grupo anonimamente dão presentes uns aos outros. Ele é praticado muitas vezes em locais de trabalho ou entre grandes famílias. Além disso, a participação é geralmente voluntária.

My favorite variation: Thieving Secret Santa or Stealing Secret Santa 
In this version, participants (players) bring one gift each, which is suitable or interesting to any of the other participants. Players take turns to choose a present, and can either accept the chosen gift or steal by changing for a previously opened gift.

Por que falar inglês?
